About Jan Hein

Mr. J.H. (Jan Hein) Mastenbroek studied Dutch law in Groningen. He graduated from the University of Groningen in 2004 in Private Law and was sworn in as a lawyer in 2005. His thesis was on the Collective Mass Claims Settlement Bill, which regulates bundled claims against claimants.

Jan Hein has been a partner at Bout Advocaten since 2014 and forms the day-to-day management of the firm. He also functions as a complaints officer. His specialisations are Collective Labour Law, Corporate Law and Insolvency Law. Jan Hein is regularly appointed by the District Court of Groningen as receiver in bankruptcies. He also regularly litigates on behalf of trade unions in collective agreement compliance cases. He is a member of INSOLAD, the specialist association for bankruptcy lawyers.

With the knowledge and experience gained in bankruptcies, Jan Hein also regularly assists directors in proceedings against receivers. He also advises on restructurings. Finally, he is active in the field of Works Council law, both on the Works Council side and on the side of entrepreneurs.

In the Register of Jurisdictions of the Dutch Bar Association, Jan Hein has registered the following areas of law:

  • Insolvency law (Bankruptcy; Suspension of payments; WSNP)
  • Corporate law (Directors’ liability; Mergers and acquisitions; Companies; Associations and foundations)

Pursuant to this registration, he is obliged to obtain 10 training points in each registered main area of law each calendar year according to the standards of the Dutch Bar Association.
